“We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
~ Aristotle
I could find the "excellence" part of this quote more impacting and truthfully in the past I may have but tonight I find myself focusing on the first sentence. "We are what we repeatedly do." It raises the question of self-reflection. What are we then? What do our actions say about us?
In the past ten days my habits would not say too many positive things about me. I haven't murdered anyone or stolen anything but my actions sure are not reflective of a person chasing perfection. And that is not okay by me. Easter was the reminder I needed. Easter said to me,
"Go ahead and try again."
"You have nothing to fear."
"I've got you covered."
So, here I am on April 1st. The sun setting from an actual spring-like day knowing I can try it all again tomorrow. Do it different. Exhale and rest in knowing I have nothing to fear. Tomorrow I get to accept forgiveness and attempt to catch excellence again.
Keep chasing perfection, people.
Eventually we are going to Catch Excellence.
