We're two months into 2013. It's time to review were I am with my Thirteen for 2013. In case you missed my original list from the old Catch Excellence site here are my thirteen goals for this year.
Thirteen for 2013 (not in any particular order)
- Improve my photography skills
Compete in my 2nd indoor triathlon- Train for my first sprint triathlon – hopefully compete as well
- Be able to strongly run 13.1 miles – hopefully complete a half marathon race
- Visit Dark Sky Cabin at least 3 times
Break free from sugar . . . again. . .- Establish an herb garden
- Pay off one significant personal loan
- Finish my bedroom – painting etc
- Establish successful off site food garden
- Learn 2 new chords for the guitar – hopefully F & B
- Bicycle as a family at least once a week in warm weather
- Faithfully live with both feet in God’s kingdom
Reality has clashed with some of my goals. As March begins I was unable to compete in my 2nd indoor triathlon like I had hoped. A couple of things led to not being able to participate in the same indoor triathlon I participated in last year. Biggest factor in not competing was my family, including myself, caught the plague in February. The triathlon was February 23rd and I wasn't even well enough the week leading up to run 15 minutes without fatigue and dizziness. The second factor is February is the month our bank account hit rock bottom after losing the contract of my largest client. This month things should begin their upswing again. This set back to my income also impacted my other race plans. The sprint triathlon I was planning on competing in is scheduled for May. I'm being cautious and conservative with my decision to not participate. It is a purely financial decision at this point. Not competing does not mean I am not training. I would still like to continue training for a sprint triathlon this year in case the opportunity arises later in the year.
I am able to mark one of my goals complete. After a body cleanse with Supportive Husband Guy in January I have broken free of my sugar addiction. Even with a weakness over Valentine's Day I was in control of the chocolate, not the other way around. This is a success worth celebrating, but not with cake or cookies, or cupcakes or chocolate or ice cream.
There are two goals that are showing nice progress. The first is improving my photography skills. The other is making the intentional decision to keep both feet in the Kingdom of God.
I now keep my Nikon DSLR out and ready to use. It doesn't hide in my camera bag in a cabinet anymore. It sits ready to use where I can see it, right next to my office. I make a point to use it once a day. While the little voice in my head that says, "You're not good enough." is still whispering to me I am becoming more confident with my photography skills. I am beginning to believe what others have been saying over the past year in regards to my photos. I also am beginning to believe the saying, "It isn't the camera that takes good photos. It's the photographer."
Supportive Husband Guy and I have made some changes to our habits when it comes to faith and living it out. They have not been easy decisions and they are an act of faith and obedience for sure. I can't say what kind of impact those decisions have made just yet. I don't believe there will be fast noticeable changes in our daily life because of them but I am noticing the changes in heart. Those are the changes that matter and last.
Did you make any goals for 2013? How's your progress on them? You have all year. Don't get discouraged if you haven't made any progress. Today is just as good as January 1st to take the first step toward a new habit or personal goal.
Keep chasing perfection, people. Eventually we will Catch Excellence.
